97% Of Smartphones Will Be Having Touchscreen By 2016

By 2016, only 3% of phones will be without a touch screen. This was reported by ABI, a research firm. That means that 97% of the phones will be having a touch screen of some type. To a greater extent, the credit of the touch screen phones’ success goes to Apple iPhone. In 2006 Apple had not launched its iconic device, before that there were only 7% smart phones that had a touch screen. But after Apple launched its devices the percentage increased to 75% by 2010. The touch screen along with the 3G connectivity is the most important factors in the vast and massive growth in the users for Smartphones.

The touch screen that is in the phones now days are a lot different from they used to be in pre-Apple iPhone. Earlier the touch screen display was such that it used to respond to any pointed object that touched the screen.

Then iPhone launched its capacitive display. Even after its launch, the year next to it so many of the so called iPhone killer came to market with un-responsive resistive screens like the one on the LG Voyager.Smartphones Touchscreen

Nowadays resistive screens are out of the trend. They are replaced by the capacitive displays. Such displays doesn’t work with a stylus or a pen cap, they rather work with the fingertip. These capacitive screens respond to the electrical impulses on the fingertips. Blackberry Leaving The Physical qwerty Style Behind

Blackberry is even leaving the non- touch screen smartphone design behind. The new BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 took one of the most loved BlackBerry form factor, one with perhaps the best physical QWERTY keyboard ever placed on a smartphone, and added touch screen functionality to its 2.8 inch display.  RIM recently added two more touch screen models to its listings with the BlackBerry Torch 9810 and the BlackBerry Torch 9850/9860.  It has been reported that the priced BlackBerry Curve will even have a model with a touch screen display.
