Android 4.0 on the HTC Thunderbolt

Announcing that their Nexus One will not be receiving any software updates to the new Ice Cream Sandwich right now, it is real surprise to know that an unofficial version of the ICS is already available on the HTC Thunderbolt. This is a “pre-alpha -release” that testers themselves have worked up. Although many features are not functional, as obvious, this is a big step ahead in the customizing era.

How did they manage to do it, well they cooked up the custom ROM using the official Android Ice Cream Sandwich development kit and made it available for download on the same date as the ICS was announced officially by Google.

Using the SDK, a ROOTzwiki member managed to configure an Android 4.0 bootable ROM. As expected the homemade version is very limited and the only process that actually works on this is the booting. It enables the users to boot up their Thunderbolts to enjoy the 4.0 version boot up. It is being said that there are some chances that lights, sensors and Wi-Fi may be made to work but those features are useless and impossible to test without touchscreen support for the OS.

Not Really a Worthless Pile of Crap

This may seem that what a worthless pile of crap has been prepared by the testers but considering that the official version is not even out yet, it really is a great step forward. In this manner HTC Thunderbolt users are the first ones to get the first ever unofficial builds of the Google’s newest ICS. Users who do want to test the boot up are welcome to download the file for free.

Otherwise it will be some time when the ICS will be officially out for the users to use freely and also, it will be working properly. So it is up to you now if you want to test the unofficial build for the boot up or you can wait for the official build from Google.

And as far as the Thunderbolt is concerned it is a 4.3 inched beast that is powered by a 1 GHz processor and has a 768 MB of RAM. It runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread and supports LTE data transfers.
