Apple iPhone Used In Shooting A Movie, ‘The Avengers’

If we rule out first-gen versions form the list then Apple’s iPhone has a history of having a much better camera from all the smartphones available these days. The questions arises that whether it is better enough or not to replace the high tech and expensive equipments used for filming a huge blockbuster with a massive budget in the stock? This was done so by the Oscar-nominated cinematographer Seamus McGarvey. He is making his large budget debut in ‘The Avengers’. In shooting of some of the scenes in the movie McGarvey used an Apple iPhone instead of the expensive cameras which are generally used for filming.

Some people talked to Seamus McGarvey on this matter and he confirms the use of Apple iPhone in shooting some of the scenes. The scenes also make up to the final cut and also included in the trailer for the film. It was not confirmed by the cinematographer that which model was used but as the scenes were filmed in April, we could make a guess between the 3 megapixels camera of Apple iPhone 3GS and the Apple iPhone 4’s 5 megapixels camera. Apple iPhone 4 can shot the video in 720p and the new iPhone 4S can do so in 1080p. There are no news regarding the availability of the pre-release copy of iPhone 4S getting into the hands of Seamus McGarvey.

The use of it was justified by the cinematographer. He said that to get the job done rightly any equipment can be used and also added that it is not the kinds of camera used that defines a movie but the right decisions to use the right equipment. In addition it was also said by him that to go with the cheapest option is not a bad idea.

Seamus McGarvey had also worked in the movies like Atonement, Charlotte’s Web and The World Trade Center. On May 4th, 2012, The Avengers is going to be released.
