How To Download & Install Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on Nexus S? [TUTORIAL]

It was announced by Google that he would soon launch Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich for all of the Nexus S and they have done it today. Android Ice Cream Sandwich is such an OS which brought the world of Tablet and smartphone together, in other it is such an OS which is running on both, smartphones and Tablets. According to me, Google has made nice move because with the help of this it can get rid of software fragmentation. Google has now decided to update Ice Cream Sandwich in all GSM/UMTS Nexus S owners in couple of days but those who are the users of CDMA will have to wait a bit. If you cannot get the update then there is no need to panic because it will soon be available soon in your area as well. Here below the official way to install the update has been mentioned and this is what you can follow to have the update:

STEPS

Step 1: Download the official Android 4.0.3 ICS zip file from this link and rename it to ‘update.zip’.

Step 2: Now, copy the downloaded .zip file to the root directory of your Nexus S via USB. Make sure its not inside any folder, it should be out in the open.

Step 3: Power off your Nexus S.

Step 4: Power it back on while holding down the Volume Up button, followed by the Powerbutton.

Step 5: Using the Volume keys on your Nexus S, navigate to the RECOVERY option and select using the Power button.

Step 6: You should be greeted with a scary exclamation mark on the screen, don’t be alarmed when you see it, simply hold down the Power button followed by the Volume up button.

Step 7: Bingo, you’re into your Nexus S recovery menu. Simply select the update from SD cardoption, select the ‘update.zip’ file you placed in your Nexus S memory in step 2 and hit thePower button to confirm.

Step 8: Sit back, relax, the rest of the process is automated. Once you’re done, select the ‘reboot system now’ option and you’ll boot into Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.

It is quite simple and easy, is it so?

In this smartphone, Ice Cream Sandwich seems to work great but we are not sure about its working yet on it because we have not experienced it ourselves so we cannot say anything up till now. The thing we can hope is that it works same as it is on Galaxy Nexus. You can have this update on your smartphone over the air (OTA) which simply means that in order to access this you will not have to connect you device to the PC. Another thing that is very important to you is that after getting the update, then perform the install over Wi-Fi only otherwise you will be saying Good-Bye to your data plan. While installing the update you should have the battery more than 80% so that the update is done smoothly without the battery of the mobile run out. If that happens then it may result in the potential damage of the hardware of your computer and the update will also not be installed.

When the update will be installed in your device then you will get the notification in the notification bar about it and if does not appear automatically then check it out manually by clicking on the capacitive menu button then head over to settings>About phone>System update.
