Guys at TUAW (The Unofficial Apple Weblog) were the ones to bring this news to us, as they posted the brief details about the technology in discussion. The post also mentioned that how you can protect your iPhone from the water damage with the help of this handy technology.

So, as I mentioned above, the technology to water proof your smartphone is called Liquipel which means Liquid repel basically and it claims to completely waterproof your smartphone. You may have seen many of the external waterproof cases but this is different, in this case Liquipel uses a nano coating which is able to repel water at very small level as well. TUAW has stated that Liquipel is like a wax paper which just refuses to absorb water and protects your smartphone.

According to TUAW:

Yeah, it sounds too good to be true. But that really is an iPhone in the cylinder above. Liquipel claims to make your smartphone water resistant by bonding it inside and out with a “nano” coating which repels water. While this isn’t for deep sea diving, it appears to be an ideal solution if you are clumsy or happen to be around water quite a bit.

Good & Bad News

So, if you are too excited about this technology, we have both good and bad news for you in this matter. Well, the good news is that the technology is available in the market at the moment and it only costs $59, which can be called reasonable as it will protect your device from water damages. Now move to the bad news, which is that you will not be able to apply the Liquipel nano coating by yourself, you will have to send your smartphone to the company and their workers will apply the coating and then return it. The whole process will take place within 1-2 days.

Smartphones Currently Supported By Liquipel

Following are smartphones which are currently supported by Liquipel: Apple iPhone 3G/3GS/4/4S, HTC EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, MyTouch 4G, Thunderbolt, Motorola Droid X/X2 and the Samsung Charge.
