Different types of keyboards have now been introduced n the mobile market. QWERTY, standard numeric, touch n type and touch are currently used by mobile companies. Almost 95% of the smartphones are coming with touch screen capability. Apple, HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Huawei and many other companies are now offering mobile phones with touch screens only. Whereas Nokia and Blackberry are stuck with QWERTY keypad. Recently a popular website ‘Nokia Conversations’ conducted a poll in which most of the Nokia users unexpectedly voted that they prefer QWERTY keypad. It is not the case that QWERTY keypad won by 1 or two votes. 48% of the Nokia users, which means almost half of all the users, preferred QWERTY keypad.

Touchscreen stood second with 34% votes and standard numeric keypad grabbed the third position with 8.91% votes. There was another option “Voice Input” which came last with just 7.75% people on its side. The main reason behind this result of voice input is that voice input technology in mobile phones has not fully developed yet. SIRI in iPhone provides the best understanding till now. Voice input in other phones is not worth using.

The main reason behind the popularity of QWERTY keyboard among Nokia users is that the people in developing countries mostly use messaging as means of communication. Votes for QWERTY keypad mostly came from UK, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Philippines. Whereas the results are totally opposite in USA where 47% people prefer touchscreens and 33% go for QWERTY keypad.
