Project ‘KaroKuch’ Started For The Calculation Of Bribery

The students from UET Lahore started a project named KaroKuch. This SMS based project was about the calculation of bribery.

Bribery Reports

Method Of Reporting

If you have a report about bribery anywhere then you can report this by sending the SMS to this number: 0336-4239229. The format for SMS is:

loc (insert text) amt (insert text) msg (insert department)

For example, take a look at the following message: “loc model town amt 500 msg Paid bribe to the tax department.”

Pakistan is facing many problems today in which corruption is a major one. This new service called KaroKuch is giving an easy way to the people who wishes to report the corruption. Now you can do this through your cell phones.

The Results Will Be Shown To Public

The data collected from this project will be collected together by the team and then will be shown to the public. People can analyze from this. Technology will be used in an interesting way for the problems of our country. It is first in the line of projects of “KaroKuch”.

Expanding This Project To Other Cities

If the response to this will be a good one and a positive one then it will be expanding to other cities. Right now it is only functioning in Lahore. If this project succeeds then its data can be used to get the corrupt institutions. Challenges are also in the way of this project. To keep the data reliable what could be done. Also there is a point related to the authenticity of the bribe report. If an institute or a person is accused of the involvement in corruption, they may say that this is a result of bogus reports. It needs more improvement but still it is in test mode. A good feedback will make the team to improve it as much as they can.

In the beginning of such kind of projects face some problems regarding their survival and maintenance. It is now available in Lahore and its expansion to other cities is in progress.

It provides a service which will be beneficial to the whole community. But to run this for a long time they are going to need some sponsors. A company like Telenor could provide them this by adding this project in their “Khamoshi ka boycott” campaign. In doing this there will be an increase in site’s traffic and also the media exposure.
