Samsung Ahead Of Apple In Smartphone Sales

In the history, for the first time, more smartphones have been shipped by Samsung Electronics Co. in the latter quarter as compared to the tech industry apple Inc.  From the outer level, it looks like a big upset but the actual reason behind this is related with the timing as well as the variety being offered by Samsung of prices and the offerings. Apple has sold 17.1 million iPhones in 3rd quarter which are 3 million fewer than expected. At the same time, according to estimation Samsung has shipped more than twenty seven million.

Apple iPhone 4S Sales Not Included

The real thing which happened is that the latest iPhone 4s was launched until the end of the quarter. So its sales are not being included in figure. The apple told that it has sold more than four million phones in the 1st week of its sale.  Francis Sideco said,

“People were waiting, we don’t see this as a signal that Apple is all of a sudden losing its edge. It’s their normal thing. But while they are doing this normal thing, Samsung is (going strong) and they happen to have a really good quarter.”

Number of Sales Do Not Lead To Any Conclusion

Samsung galaxy phones make up a large part of the Samsung’s quarter. Sideco said,” Numbers shouldn’t lead to the conclusion that the Samsung Galaxy beat the Apple iphone.” He also said, “What beat it is Samsung’s lines.” In addition to the galaxy line, the Samsung phones also include Focus, Conquer, Indulge and the Replenish. As the Samsung has sold more phones, the apple has also being making money on the each one. Probably, this is one of the reasons; the apple is the most expensive tech company in the whole world and it has a market value which is three times than that of Samsung. The apple is competing and dominating others. On the other hand, the Samsung has both cheap as well as costly phones. It means that Samsung is having larger range of costumers. According to Milanesi, “It’s part of their plan, if they wanted to capture a wider segment of the market, they would go with a lower-end device.” He also said, “The sales of the $99 iPhone 4 will definitely help widen the addressable market.”
