We all know that Japanese market is filled with various waterproof gadgets including smartphones and tablets. Sony is a Japanese manufacturer and they have released some waterproof devices in the country as well but this time Sony has announced a new waterproof device for the international users. This new handset is called Sony Xperia Acro S. Previously, Sony released a similar handset that was intended to release in Japan only which was named at Sony Xperia Acro HD.
Specifications
Well, it seems like the international version, Sony Xperia Acro S has the same specs as the Acro HD which include a 12MP Exmor R Camera that is capable of recording 1080p video. The handset is powered by 1.5GHz dual core processor under the hood along with 1GB of RAM. It will be featuring a 4.3 inch HD Reality display with high resolution and you will also be getting 16GB of internal storage memory.
Water Resistant
That’s not it, as I mentioned above, this handset is capable of water resistance and it has the IP55 and IP57 ratings that prove it. It basically means that you will be able to dip the handset in up to three feet of water for over 30 minutes which makes it pretty awesome. So, if you are planning on playing Frisbee with this handset on the beach, you can do that because it will be protected from any internal damage from sand and liquid.
Not Completely Flawless
On the other hand, Acro S has a flaw as well. The handset is little thicker and heavier than the usual smartphones, even it is heavier than the Xperia S but that is only due to the waterproofing.
Wet Finger Tracking Tracking Technology
Additionally, Acro S also has wet finger tracking technology, which means that you will be able to use the capacitive screen of the handset with your wet hands, which is another outstanding feature.
The other stuff in the handset include a powerful 1910 mAh battery, DLNA media streaming, NFC chip. There is a TV Launcher app located in the handset as well, that will allow you to use your handset as a remote for Sony’s smart BRAVIA TV sets.
Of course Sony Xperia Acro S will be running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and it will also support microSD memory cards. Sony will be releasing this handset in Q3 this year.
