Difference Between 3G, 3GS and 4G Technologies

From the recent past we can clearly see that no technology has a life of more than 3 to 4 years because a new and comparatively much stronger technology comes into the market. The new technologies are not totally based on a new idea but it is based on the previous ideas with little changes. Same is the case with the technologies which we are going to talk about.

If you go into the mobile market then you will hear a lot of gossips about 2G, 3G, 3GS and 4G. Apart from only hearing these things have you ever thought that what these technologies are and what is the new thing in the latest one.

After reading this article your mind will get much clearer that what is 3G, 3GS and 4G and what are the differences between them.

3G

First of all we start with 3G. After 1G and 2G, 3G was a major development in the field of Telecommunication. It can transfer data at much higher speed than the previous technologies. This speedy data transfer allows video streaming and even video conferencing is possible. It has a data transfer rate of128 to 144 kbps for “slow” devices and 384 kbps for “fast” devices. 3G offers a fixed LAN speed of more than 2 mbps. The mobile phones having this technology often come with 2 cameras. One on the front and other on the back.

3GS

In “3GS” the “S” represents “speed”. The features of 3GS are almost the same as the features of 3G technology but the difference is in speed. 3GS is twice as fast as 3G and can transfer data at much faster rates which makes it ideal for video calling and video conferencing. Moreover, there was a problem in most 3G handsets that videos were not uploaded to youtube. This had to be done by using third party software. But in 3GS phones this problem is solved and videos can be easily uploaded without using any other third party software. 3GS phones also offer voice control feature and has a much better battery time as compared to 3G phones.

4G

This one can transfer data at even more higher rates. It can transfer larger packets of data with much less bit errors. Due to higher speed this one is even good than 3GS for video calling, multimedia and internet browsing.

The main positive point of 4G for which it is famous is the Multitasking capability. You can use even 4 to 5 applications at a time and can access any minimized application without closing your current application.

There is a nice comparison lecture for those who want to get into the comparison between 1g, 2g, 3g, 3gs and 4g. We hope you like it.
