Why iPhone 4 Did Not Get Siri Technology? Click To Know…

Well, the only prominent feature that was updated in the new iPhone 4S this year is undoubtedly Siri the personal assistant. Of course we keep the exception of the amazing 8 MP camera as well as the dual core A5 processor but these features were already expected by many. Siri was the innovative feature, which took everyone as a surprise after the release of this humble virtual voice assistant. Well, we can also say that if Apple released Siri for iPhone 4 as well, many might have retained their older iPhone or bought it instead of the new iPhone 4S and clearly the current figures show that Siri was the major selling point of iPhone 4S.

We can count this as a reason why Apple did not brought Siri to the older devices, particularly the iPhone 4. On the other hand, Apple did not release any official statement about the matter but there is another possible reason which has not been looked at before by anyone in my opinion.

Noise Reduction Enhanced In iPhone 4s

Linley Gwennap is an analyst at Linley Group who has researched on this matter who shows us that Apple has included the larger A5 chip in the iPhone 4S. The reason why the chip is large is that Apple has added an integrated noise reduction technology which has been used in the extra area of the die. It basically is a dedicated chip from start-up Audience and it allows the device to pick up the voices more accurately. On the contrary, the noise reduction technology present in iPhone 4 is only capable of picking up the voices only when the device is placed near user’s mouth.

It concludes that the reason why iPhone 4 did not get the Siri is that, it would not have been able to listen to your voice in this particular handset. According to the analyst:

“This situation helps explain why Apple does not offer Siri as a software upgrade on the iPhone 4. Although the older phone includes an Audience chip, the company has since improved its technology to handle ‘far-field speech,’ which means holding the device at arm’s length rather than directly in front of the mouth,”

The specific chip which is the second generation technology making from Audience has been released in 2011 and that’s why it was not placed in iPhone 4.

Improved Version Of 3rd Gen Audience Technology In Future Devices

Another interesting thing to know that future devices are going to bring a new an improved version of third gen Audience technology. While many of the current smartphones other than Apple iPhone are also using this technology, take a look here:
