Windows Phone Apollo Expected In Mid 2012

Less than a week ago the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango was launched in the market and now the release of its next version or you can say its successor is revealed by a suite from Nokia. This new phone is code named Windows Phone Apollo. It was stated by Michael Halbherr who is the Executive Vice President for Location and Commerce that the phone will be releasing during the time span between the end of Q2 and the start of Q3.

Apollo & Mango; Totally Different

In addition to the reveal of release date he also said that if we compared Apollo to the Mango release then it will be a totally different one. He also suggested that with its launch it could be the step forward to Windows Phone 8. And that will be coming with a lot of stuff not with just a run-of-the-mill upgrade.

Introduction OF NFC

With the release date revealed a lot much time before its launch one can imagine that it would be a great one. Not much was revealed regarding Apollo but it was told by Halbherr that he is in talk with Microsoft about the introduction of Near Field Communication (NFC). It will make the Windows phone a lot better when we talk about its compatibility with Nokia’s Navteq mapping platform. He called NFC as a “positioning framework”.

In getting incorporated with Microsoft’s smartphones, Nokia is dropping its OS which is Symbian and in doing so the company will be getting favoritism as we talk about the Windows Phone releases in the future. If Nokia succeed in getting its position back as it was ten years ago and Windows Phone 8 delivers what Nokia is expecting from it then it would create a fuss in the market which is at the moment dominated by Android / iOS.

iOS 5 is released and Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich is about to in November. Microsoft allowed the users to test an Alpha release of Windows 8 operating system and in doing so increased its PR a lot.

If Apollo, as mentioned would release in the mid of 2012 then it may follow the Mango’s earlier release before the expectation, this strategy could tackle both Apple and Google.
