Android Facial Recognition Safe or Not? Also Coming Soon In iOS App Store

As we all know that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the most anticipated iteration of Android and one of the greatest feature introduced by this latest Android version is the facial recognition unlock software which comes along with the update. Previously we have seen such things in movies, and now these have become reality that you will be able to unlock your device by scanning your face from the front camera of the device. On the other hand, the quest is still high that whether this locking mechanism is safe or not.

Security Loophole: Photo Can Be Used To Unlock

Well, according to many reports and user experiments, we have found out that the new feature of Face recognition unlocking mechanism has a security loophole, that whenever someone other than the owner wants to unlock the device, they can use the photo of that person to scan it and unlock the device, which does not look like that safe to me. But still, it is very cool to have such great feature, at this moment it can only be used to show off to your friends until the bugs are completely fixed.

So, after the bugs and other issues are fixed in this feature, it will definitely make an extremely exciting feature which will also be able to integrate with many other innovative apps. As currently biometric retina and fingerprint scanners are trending to unlock the doors, just like that this technology will also change the unlocking mechanism world for mobile devices.

Facial Recognition Also For iPhone 4

Last year, it was reported that some developer was trying to develop similar jailbreak tweak which will allow iPhone 4 front camera to detect and scan the face of the user and unlock the device accordingly. At that moment, that tweak was named as RecognizeMe and was released on Cydia store which got mixed reviews from the users. The tweak was based on the facial recognition software introduced in ICS and it was used to train the device to recognize the person’s face.

Well, it seems like similar facial recognition unlocking app is going to make its way into the iOS App Store. As according to various sites, some developers are working on similar app which will have identical features to Ice Cream Sandwich unlocking software. Here we have also received the video from the developers which shows some of the workings of the app. I am very certain that it will get pretty popular in the App Store once it releases after passing the strict Apple’s guidelines and testing.
