Best Android Apps for Students as well as College Graduates

It is January 2013, holiday season is over, schools are open and commitment to new year resolutions is still intact! In the spirit of new year and productivity we have compiled a list of android apps for students to enhance their performance and enlighten them of what is going on in app arena, this can improve their overall productivity throughout the academic year. We have selected Android as a platform for our post. Android as of now is far more popular in students, however, most of the following applications are also available on other platforms, such as IOS and Windows Phone 8.

Evernote

EverNote Students Android App

Evernote is without any doubt one of the best productivity app out there and good thing is it is available on multiple platforms and operating systems. Evernote is an award winning app and have been featured and won awards from Mashable, Techcrunch, Newyork times and Webbys.

This is a free app with a rating of 4.7 out of 5 on Google Play. Ever note’s current version 4.4.2 was recently released in December 20, 2012 and is 10 MB in size. The reason we listed this app here is because it is capable of taking notes, capturing pictures and even recording voice clips, combination of all these features can significantly help students and graduates improve their productivity. Students can take notes and check them out later on the move. The Virtual University

Virtual University App

Virt U: is a free app, it used to require its users to login through Facebook, however, in their last release they removed this requirement. This app is extremely useful as it allows students to download and watch tutorials, lectures and notes from top universities like Standford, Harvard, MIT and other top universities. There are hundreds of lectures to be downloaded.

I believe this application can significantly help in preparing your notes. Listening lectures from these top universities can add up to your skill set and give a competitive edge over other students during exams, not to forget it can also impress your teachers!

This app was last released in March, 2011 and has an over all rating of 3.3. Virt U is 1.4 MB in size and requires atleast 1.5 or above android.

Droid Scan

This list would not be complete without mentioning the Droid Scan app. Almost every student requires to scan their documents, lectures and notes on regular basis. In cases, this app becomes even more handy when you have missed the class but your classmate has taken the notes and all you have to do is install this app and scan the notes using your smartphone.

This app comes in 2 versions, Lite and Pro. In Lite you can save files in high resolution Jpegs, share among friends or save on computers for later review. These image files are in high resolution which makes it easy to zoom and read. The pro version gives multiple options to save files in different formats.

Come to think of it, this app can be used in variety of other cases, such as taking snapshots of your favorite menu or recipes in restaurants.

Wikipedia

Wikipedia App for Students

Even though Wikipedia is condemned in most of the institutes yet it can be used as vital source of information. You don’t necessarily need to use it for references but it can be used to get some information on any subject. At the end of each article on Wikipedia you can check on references from actual universities, government, authors, books and organisations and then you should cross check the information and use references from those authoritative sites.

Wikipedia is a free application with rating of as high as 4.5. This online encyclopedia of information has more than 20 million articles hosted on its domain and these can be read in more than 280 languages. 1.3.3 which is the latest version of Wikipedia app, was released in December 12, 2012 which means Wikipedia organisation is regularly updating their app.

We have listed a lot of productivity apps, but there is no substitute to Alarm Clock Xtreme which helps you achieve the goals you have set for yourself!
