Well, the new year has started but we are still pretty interested to know the different interesting statistics of the year 2012. Thanks to the different analysts around the world. We have been getting very accurate stats and facts of the smartphone industry.
So, as we deal with mobile phones on this forum, we are here with the figures and numbers about the mobile phones shipped by the big manufacturers around the world. According to analysis of a firm named Strategy Analytics, over 1.6 Billion mobile phones were shipped around the world in the year 2012. You have to keep in mind that we are talking about the number of mobile phones shipped not sold, both are completely different things. Mobile phones shipped means that those handsets are shipped by the manufacturers, there might be many units still lying on the shelves of different retailers but the number mentioned above only explains the units that were manufactured and shipped by the companies not sold.
Samsung Ahead of Nokia & Apple
So, according to the stats, 700 million of the 1.6 Billion shipped mobile phones are smartphones, which is a pretty big number. It is highly expected that in the next year smartphones will clearly outsell the other feature phones. The stats also suggests that Samsung is the manufacturer that shipped the highest number of mobile phones around the world. Nokia was second and Apple came in third in the list. When we talk specifically about the smartphones, Samsung is still leading in the list but Apple is the second highest shipping smartphone manufacturer and Nokia came in at third.
Samsung is really leading the charts, as it has been reported that due to the high demand and popularity of its Galaxy branded smartphones Samsung was able to ship over 396 million mobile phones all around the world and the Korean manufacturer was able to capture over 25 percent of market share which makes it the leading smartphone producer.
Another interesting fact is that ZTE is the fourth highest shipping mobile phone manufacturer but it has been getting a very tough competition from other Chinese companies like Coolpad.
