IMEI: An Important Thing To Know

Nowadays many people have heard the word IMEI from other people, but they have never really tried to ponder upon the reality of IMEI number, that what IMEI number really is? Why it was needed? And what are its advantages? WHAT IS IMEI?

First of all it is really important to know that what IMEI stands for. It is the abbreviation for

“International Mobile Equipment Identity”

Every handset has a unique 15 or 17 digit code known as IMEI number, which is very important for the security of that handset.

HOW TO FIND YOUR IMEI

There are 2 ways to find out your IMEI number.

  1. Simply take a look inside the battery compartment of your mobile phone. IMEI number will be printed there.
  2. If there is some problem in the first step or you want to confirm the number then write “ *#06# ” on the number dialing screen. As soon as you press the last “#”, a number will immediately appear on your screen which will be the IMEI of your handset.

Both these methods are valid for all mobile phone manufacturing companies in Pakistan and also in some other countries.

Now let us see that what they stand for

TAC = Type Approval Code

FAC = Final Assembly Code

SNR = Serial Number

SP=Spare

ADVANTAGES OF KNOWING IMEI

In the current circumstances of Pakistan, when street crimes and mobile snatching has become common, IMEI number is a very important thing to know and save. Suppose your mobile is lost or snatched and you want your personal or secret data to be safe then you can do this if you know the IMEI number of your handset. Simply call your network provider and tell them to blacklist and block the handset or tell you its location and you can recover your phone.
