India Introduces a $70 Solar Slate Which Runs on Froyo

Now its like everyday new and mini devices are presented in the market. After XO-3, India has offered another slate, which is of course a low budget tablet. It is created by a company named Bharat Electronics. Introducing price of this slate is only 3000 Indian Rupees or just $70. Mainly its features consist of Backup Solar Charging, runs on Android 2.2 and we are not aware of the processor’s speed, RAM or memory storage. But according to the news from Hindu Business Line, these Froyo pads will be able to store data and upload it real time to a central server. So we can presume a little storage capacity.

These pads are not made available in the market, at least not for now. These tablets are exclusively made and being sold to India’s Ministry of Rural Development, who are using it for some poverty survey. This unnamed tablet’s founder company’s Chairman, Mr. Ashwini Datt told media that they have to reconfigure the tablet if they have to make it available for the consumers or students.

Where there are great added benefits for students using this ultimate cheap device, there are downsides or disadvantages of it as well. Since, the slate is pretty cheap, we might expect it to run some substandard hardware and product manufacturing warranty might not be good enough to engage massive buyers. This device might also not be feasible for high end users as it might not be able to run resource hungry programs. The best use of this slate is to massively distribute it to less  fortunate people across world, specially Africa under charitable programs, this slate can be used to educate kids in such countries. We shall update you with fresh information on the subject as it becomes available.
