Lahore High Court Orders IT Ministry To Block Facebook

Lahore high court justice Azmat Saeed has ordered ministry of telecom and IT to block the Facebook because Facebook is majorly responsible for the religious hatred on internet. It is not yet confirmed that Ministry of information technology is going to block it or not and another strange thing is that this news is not being covered by any other media.

A request was made for permanent ban on Facebook for having a competition of caricatures and LHC has ordered the government to ban it permanently and to submit a report by October 6, 2011. And it was said that search engine like Google will not be blocked because it can be proved very helpful to everyone. Last year Facebook was banned in Pakistan for having a similar activity known as Draw Mohammad Day and also having blasphemous pictures on pages from it.

Was Also Banned After “Draw Muhammad Day” Issue

Recently the request for its ban was made by Muhammad and Ahmad who belong to a litigation firm, and this request was made through Muhammad Azhar Siddique who wishes a permanent ban for accessing Facebook for having the same caricature contest again in all over the world having a title “2nd Annual Draw Muhammad Day which is being held on may 20, 2011”.

Lahore High Court Bans Facebook

Facebook, a social network, in which users from all around the world post whatever they want free of cost. Its content is based on Facebook terms which explain:

Post that may prove to be hateful threatening or pornographic create violence or have nudity along with graphic violence.

Biased Attitude Of Facebook

Facebook has now become controversial it has not removed Draw Muhammad Day page from it`s server and the main thing is that it was also reported as abuse by thousands of users while in case of an Anti-Israel page it takes just few minutes to get removed.

Updates:

  1. It is confirmed that no such request have been received by PTA officials for blocking Facebook.
  2. Three ministries of Telecom and IT have confirmed that they have not received any orders from LHC for blocking Facebook.
  3. A reported of express news has personally talked to Azhar Siddique, who make the request, and according to him LHC has just ordered that it will ban URL/fan pages which contains contents of “Draw Muhammad Day” not the whole Facebook.
  4. This shows another story of “Pakistan Today” being bounced badly.
