Windows 7.8 will Release in First Quarter of 2013

Today Microsoft has revealed some important information about the devices that are currently running on Windows Phone 7.5 about the new software update they will be getting. Previously, it was stated that most of those devices will be getting Windows Phone 7.8 instead of the latest Windows Phone 8 update. Now, the Redmond based company has revealed when this update will be released and which devices will be getting it.

Exact Date Not Confirmed

Microsoft has stated that they will start rolling out Windows Phone 7.8 update in the first quarter of the next year. So, you should be expecting it to arrive somewhere in the next four months, well it’s not an exact release date but at least we get the idea when it’s really coming.

Windows 7.5 running devices will get 7.8

When we talk about the list of the devices that will be getting this new Windows Phone 7.8 update, Microsoft said that all the existing devices that can support Windows Phone 7.5 version will be able to get this update. The company will roll out Windows Phone 7.8 to all those devices at the time of the launch and Microsoft further stated that the new devices that will come around that time will also be bringing the latest Windows Phone 7.8 software version. Now, the second part of the statement looks a little confusing because we all know that Microsoft’s main mobile platform is now Windows Phone 8 so why would they release new devices running on Windows Phone 7.8.

Well, it seems like the company will still bring out cheaper devices that will be running on Windows Phone 7.8 and these cheap devices will really help Microsoft improving its market share around the world. Of course high end devices from Microsoft from now on will bring the latest Windows Phone 8.

Windows Phone 7.8 is actually a simpler and most basic version of the latest Windows Phone 8. It looks very similar to the latest version and it has the same themes and basic features. Of course it will not be able to provide all the functions of Windows Phone 8 but still it will be enough for the older devices as well as the new affordable ones.
