After Karachi, PTCL Set To Launch GPON Technology In Islamabad And Lahore

PTCL has started Fiber to home service which is actually based on GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology; it’s first ever, in Karachi. In 2009, PTCL announced that that they will start GPON and very high speed broadband soon. After that we learnt that PTCL contacted KHL (Konnect Holden Limited) to help it in deploying GPON in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi, with the capacity of over 5000 subscribers in every city.

After the successful deployment in Karachi, it is expected to launch in Lahore and Islamabad soon, as reported by a news agency taken from the company’s statement.
GPON will be provided to PTCL subscribers by using optical fiber cables and it will deliver triple play to every subscriber. It is supposed to have a blazing fast speed and will provide most advanced services relating voice, video and data to its customers. Mainly, just like HD videos and Television, innovative telephony services and ultra brand internet access.PTCL Set To Launch GPON Technology

GPON works on a principle which involves increasing the total bandwidth and bandwidth efficiency, with the use of larger and variable length data packets. It is able to provide much larger efficiency as a transport network and even it can deliver simplicity and scalability for future upgrades and expansions for adding new services and reducing costs.

It seems like once again PTCL has raised the bar of customer experience by a notch. A little about the company behind this service, KHL, KHL got this contract at the end of last year. Before this project, KHL conducted the ODN survey for PTCL which was a major success for the company. Now KHL is responsible for this 150K project all across Pakistan.

PTCL is already running the largest fiber network in a country and now with the deployment of this new GPON technology, PTCL is going for the better future of the company and Pakistan with the latest technologies.

Abdullah Yousef Abdullah, SEVP PTCL, Business Zone South, expressed his feelings on this matter by saying:

PTCL will widely deploy Fiber to the home technology of which the first step has already been taken in some parts of Karachi giving our valued customers the opportunity to experience the latest technology and the best quality of service. Our aim is to delight our customers with such innovative products right at their doorstep which suits their life styles and spending budgets.
