Huawei Introduces Its First Windows 8 Phone By The Name of “Ascend W1”

In our previous post we talked about a new handset announced by Huawei, the Chinese manufacturer at the CES 2013 event being held in Las Vegas. After Huawei Ascend Mate which is a mighty 6.1 incher Android handset, Huawei has also launched its first Windows Phone 8 powered smartphone which is named as Ascend W1.

Not a very high end device

The Ascend W1 comes with a 4 inch display screen with IPS LCD technology and it features WVGA resolution. Now, it seems a little odd that 480 x 800 pixel is a resolution which is now only being used in lower end devices. But Huawei’s Ascend W1 will also coming with full lamination technology which will be able to increase the visibility of the screen. We can’t say that it is a very high end premium device, but still overall it looks pretty decent. It also follows the trend of other Windows Phone devices from Nokia and HTC that bring shiny colors and this rectangular form.

Specifications

When we talk about the technical specs of the device, Huawei Ascend W1 will be coming with a 1.2GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8230 along with Adreno 305 GPU. That’s not it. It will also be featuring 512MB of RAM as well as 4GB of internal storage. The good thing is that you will be able to expand the storage with the help of microSD card of up to 32GB storage.

On the back of the device, you will find a 5MP camera which will be capable of recording videos of 720p video quality. It will also be bringing 0.3MP camera on the front which can be used for video calling and self portraits. Just like the Ascend Mate, Ascend W1 will also be bringing longer battery life with a 1950 mAH.

As I mentioned above, it follows the trend of other Windows Phone 8 devices and that is why it will be available in all the shiny colors including Blue, Red, Black and White. Huawei will release W1 in China and Russia in January, while the release will expand in the next month to Europe, Middle East and other regions. We don’t know about the price tag yet, but it seems to be affordable.
