Patents Show 3D Technology Coming In iDevices Soon

Its not the first time that we are hearing rumors about Apple working on a 3D interface for the iPhone and iPad, well these rumors have been started since the first iPhone was released, while there are also many patent applications from Apple which have supported these rumors as well in the past.

Now, we have new patent application submitted by Apple, which was discovered by the reporters of Patently Apple  recently.

Amazing On The Paper, But Not Much Appreciated Practically

According to the new patent, this technology will bring a complete 3D user interface which will also let Apple and its engineers to provide all kinds of new possibilities to the users. Apple will have so many options of designing interface, like icons floating around the screen or popping out and many more. Well, it is looking very amazing while on the paper but we have usually observed that the practical use of 3D has not be that much appreciated, especially in mobile or portable devices, just take the example of Nintendo 3DS to consider this.

Hand Gestures Recognition System

Well, the other part of the patent suggests that the device will be able to recognize hand gestures, while hand will be floating above the device. It basically means that users will be able to access menus, buttons and icons without even touching the device’s screen. Currently, the oleo phobic screens in the latest iPhone are much better than the previous ones, but still, we will highly appreciate this feature as it will definitely reduce the finger grease marks on your iPhone screen.

Just like other previous patents of Apple, there is a high possibility that this one might not even see the light of the day anytime soon or we might never see these technologies coming out in the real form in the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. It is a specialty of Apple to apply for patents regularly, just like other companies, while there are many of those patents which never show up in the final shipping product. 3D technology is a little new as well, and we already know that Apple usually does not go into newer technologies this early. So, we will have to wait a little longer to see an iPhone with 3D display capabilities.
