Which is Best Mobile Operating System (Part 1)

Best Operating Mobile System (OS)

When buying a phone everyone takes a look at the specifications before taking a final decision. They make sure a good quality camera, Bluetooth, WI-Fi, music player etc. But how many people notice the operating system (OS) of that phone? Maybe 15 or 20 out of 100. Why is that so? The answer is because they have almost no knowledge about OS. Mostly people don’t know that which OS is suitable for them according to their usage or requirements of the phone. So in this article I have decided to try to give some information on Operating System of mobile phones.

First of all we must know that what the word “Operating System” actually means.

Operating System (OS)

OS is basically a structure on which the whole working of a device is based. It links the physical parts of a device with the software applications in that device. Every computer or mobile needs an OS to operate.

Major mobile operating systems nowadays are

  • Java
  • Symbian
  • Android
  • iOS
  • Windows
  • Bada

All of the above operating systems will be discussed one by one.

JAVA

Java OS has spread very quickly in Pakistan. Various mobile manufacturing companies are making java based devices. At present there are a very large number of mobile phones using java. If we take a look at the graph then will be very clear that 45%-50% mobile developers selected java OS for their devices, in 2010 .And if we look at the  number of applications then java is on top, with most number of applications.

Now there must be reason that why a large number of mobile developing companies are choosing java for their devices? And why java has the most number of applications? Is java better than every other OS?

Actually java operating system was developed earlier than other operating systems, that is why much work has been done on java by making its applications and other types of softwares. The important thing is that java has been the first choice of such mobile developers who do not have their own OS because java is freely available. Anyone can use it with his own choice. For example symbian is Nokia’s personal OS. No one can use it without taking proper permission from Nokia. But java has no such limitation.

Following are names of some java enabled mobile phones of different companies.

In the next part of this article there will be a comparison between Java and Symbian and other operating systems will also be discussed. So don’t miss it.
